Bio

"A classically trained poet and student of performance and sociology, Rosemary DeMarco is a writer turned printer-painter catching her stride as a multi-media Artist. DeMarco’s academic training and personal commitment to a life lived wildly converge in her craft; beguiling one another into a bold artistic voice. Through the clever manipulation of quip and inventive slogan, the artist’s own handwriting, and the inherently repetitive nature of print-making and word-play, DeMarco exposes her roots and reconciles the poet-artist disposition: from tongue to hand, pen to ink, to cloth, and back again. Each process in the Artist’s practice interplay as evolutions of these relationships and—with guttural tenderness and rhythmic riddle— reference the imperfections of human observation and interaction. DeMarco simultaneously deconstructs the intellectual and conceptualizes the casual, effectively calling her audience out and drawing them in. Come read and get read. (Words by Emmaly Saliga) She received her undergraduate degree in Sociology and Performance studies from the New College of Florida, where she spent most of her time studying the sociology of art. Her undergraduate thesis was the perfect culmination of her interests, where she wrote about New Orleans Bounce Rap and the power it yields in New Orleans and beyond. The themes of gatekeeping, content curation, and art consumption explored in her thesis were a groundwork for her current artistic practice. Rosemary is currently a Graduate student at Pratt Institute, studying to receive her MPS in Arts and Cultural Management. Her focus is public programming with an emphasis on community engagement."
