Edition 1 of 1 “Meditation will save us from the machine; art will save us from ourselves. We meditate to strengthen our pre-frontal cortex, which controls self-regulation and discipline. Digital technology causes mass addiction, and meditation will prevent widespread mental health problems caused by digital media on our devices. Meditation also creates a silent space to dive into the core of our individual consciousness, which this is fundamental for the preservation of free will, authenticity and individual happiness.” — Krista Kim “8x8 is the first public installation NFT in the Metaverse. “8x8” was created in 2017 as a digital public art installation displayed on 20m x 3m LED walls with healing sound frequency soundscapes by Tenille Bentley. This installation was exhibited in Jacksonville, Florida in 2017 for the “Techism” group exhibition, and in 2018 at Palais de Tokyo Museum (Paris) for Nuit Blanche. This generative meditative short film (1h 20mins) was created as a digital Zen garden, using a digital screen, light and sound to create a meditative state in the viewer. Kim’s intention is to promote meditation as mainstream practice for digital natives, who are susceptible to mental health issues from the negative effects of digital overload, social media, and surveillance capitalism. “8x8XR” is an unlockable NFT to a Metaverse public exhibition on Arium for “NFTism: No Fear in Trying” curated by Kenny Schachter for Institut on Sept. 10, 2021. The owner may opt to keep the installation public, or create private access after the exhibition ends. The full length of “8x8XR” in the metaverse is 1h 20min. “8x8XR” Metaverse link: https://arium.xyz/spaces/8x8 Krista Kim Music by Tenille Bentley Video installation created in 2017 3min 10sec Metaverse installation created in 2021 1h 20min
