Evil words – People
Edition 1 of 1 Evil Words is a series of high resolution computer generated short videos made by Miao Ying, each unique NFT reveals a word that was censored by the American Tech company Google in most spoken languages. According to its then slogan, “Don’t be evil”, those words must be evil to be censored. This is the first time that the artist revealed the listed words that were censored by Google. To make the list, Miao took on the labor-intensive task of searching every word from a 1869-page standard Mandarin dictionary on google.cn, 10 hours a day, for three months in 2007. The words on Miao's list are sometimes predictable terms related to politics or religion. Other times they are surprising, words that had been flagged temporarily for indiscernible reasons. Since leaving China in 2010, Google has kept its office in China and has been trying to come back to the Chinese market, in 2018 Google plans to launch a censored version of its search engine in China, code-named Dragonfly.
