Edition 1 of 1 Abstract: This conceptual artwork explores the strange and incredibly interesting world of wordplay in the English language. This specific set of works use a technique called word ladders. Word ladders are a kind of puzzle in which one word must be transformed into another specified word of the same length by changing one letter at a time, each step yielding a valid intermediate word, as in cold→ cord→ card→ ward→ warm. Lewis Carroll is attributed with “inventing” the first word ladder puzzle in 1877. I personally use the term, discovered, as the English language, its words, and structure already exist (though every year new words are added to the lexicon), just like numbers have inherent qualities that are independent of human intervention. Nothing is really invented, just a different way to see how words connect inside the hidden quantum world of the English language. There is an underlying pattern in the use of letters within the context of words that most of us just take for granted. So in essence, by using this technique we can connect various types of fruits to other types of fruits only using words and use the colors typically used with these fruits; green apple, purple grape, orange orange, yellow lemon, etc. in a meta way. In doing this, we create a dual ombré of colors and of words themselves that reference each other directly and indirectly. Truly a one-of-a-kind unique set.
